Laptop with ATTN
Dear Fairfield City School District Families,

At approximately 11:45 AM a disturbing email was sent to students and faculty stating their lives would be in danger tomorrow. After careful investigation, Jefferson County law-enforcement/school resource officers have determined that this IS NOT a credible threat.  The email originated from a student laptop at the high school. School administration is continuing to gather facts to determine disciplinary actions according to the student handbook.  Once again, it is the determination of law enforcement that today’s email was not a credible threat.

Some of you are understandably alarmed at this incident. We understand your concern. The safety of every member of the Fairfield City School System family is our utmost priority. School is scheduled as normal tomorrow; however, out of an abundance of caution, there will be heavy police presence on all campuses.

This is the second such incident this month. All threats, including hoaxes, have serious consequences, which may include expulsion from school and/or criminal charges. Investigators say this type of behavior increases right before major events like school breaks, exams, etc.

Students, please exercise safe online practices. Always log off your computer when you are not using it, and never share your password with anyone. If you believe someone may have your password, you should change it immediately. Thank you for your partnership as we work together to provide all students with an exceptional education in a safe setting.

Sincerely,

Dr. Regina Thompson
