Dear Fairfield City Schools:
We have received instructions from state leaders on how to proceed with educating students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Governor Kay Ivey and State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey announced today that students will not be returning to the traditional school setting this year. Instead, schools have been directed to implement alternative instructional plans. This decision was made to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and to maintain the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff members.
At this time, we are awaiting further direction from the State Department of Education on ways we will create a learning plan that is appropriate for our students at Fairfield City Schools.
The 2019-2020 school year will resume April 6th and extend through June 5th. This will allow us time to work out a plan that will ensure students’ academic success. While it may feel like an extended break, we want to stress to students and parents that all assignments must be completed. Report cards will still be issued.
Please, look forward to receiving additional information about when and where to pick up learning packets and additional needed resources in the coming days.
Until then, stay safe. Be encouraged. And, take care of yourself and those around you.
Educationally,
Regina D. Thompson, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Fairfield City Schools
