You might say Christmas came a little early this year for some Robinson Elementary first graders, their parents, and teachers. Participants in the PowerUp program, received brand new backpacks and school supplies Monday, August 19th.
The generous gifts were made possible by Power Up Inc., Robinson Realty Group, and St. John Lodge #57 Birmingham. The groups not only supplied the needs for all three first grade classes, St. John Lodge #57 also pledges to replenish the classrooms’ needs throughout the year.
“Our calling to us is that we need to give back,” says St. John Z. Bender.
Representatives from each organization, along with superintendent Dr. Regina Thompson, director of operations Walter Curry, and principal LaRonda Aikerson, greeted the children and helped them put on their new backpacks.
“As they progress in life, you want them to do the same for others,” says St. John Bro. Quinton Bell.
It’s an up-close example of how a village bands together for the success of children.
